ECA’s Technology, Innovation, Connectivity and Infrastructure Division (TICID) facilitates the formulation, adoption, and implementation of new technology and innovation policies for African member states towards improving the competitiveness of institutions, welfare of citizens, and collective and individual security.

Our Work

The division works to enhance the capacity of African member states to leverage new and emerging technologies and innovations through:

  • Intergovernmental Convenings: Facilitating high-level and statutory meetings among member states and ministries.
  • Technical Support and Advisory Services: Providing expert guidance, policy research, and resource mobilization.
  • Capacity Building Programs and Consultative Processes: Facilitating regional consensus and capacity building based on member states' requests.
  • Publications: Sharing insights and best practices through policy briefs and research publications.

Mission

By fostering dialogue and regulatory processes for digital transformation, the division aims to:

  • Harmonize regional interoperability, data governance, and cybersecurity frameworks for African Member States

  • Facilitate a supportive policy environment conducive to public and private sector investment in new and emerging technologies

The division facilitates ECA’s consultations with ministers of African member states, civil society, the private sector, and academia. These consultations foster engagement and contributions to global processes and policy frameworks focused on digital governance, including the African Union Digital Transformation Strategy 2030, Africa WSIS Annual Review, regional Internet Governance Forums (IGFs), and the UN Global Digital Compact (GDC), among others.
