The United Nations economic commission for Africa is organizing the 5th webinar for Ministers of Finance of African Member States on commodity prices on Tuesday, 5 October 2021 from 3:30pm to 5:00pm (East African Time). The webinar is pursuant to Ministers’ recommendations at the launch of the ECA Price Watch Centre for Africa last year, which aims to present the developments of the consumer price index and other related indices.
Trade and especially exports provide an opportunity for economies to increase resource generation opportunities and to raise foreign currency. The COVID-19 pandemic has exposed the vulnerability of African economies to global shocks and high dependence to remote world markets. Disruptions in supply chains and slowdown in economic activities worldwide might have affected the price of several commodities since the outbreak.
The analysis and findings will serve a basis for discussion on policy options and strategies to strengthen African economies.
