The United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (ECA) is hosting an expert group meeting on the Africa Fourth Review and Appraisal of the Madrid International Plan of Action on Ageing (MIPAA) at the UN Conference Centre in Addis Ababa on 12 and 13 July.
This meeting will be a platform for MIPAA focal points, policymakers and other stakeholders to review and assess national and regional progress towards the implementation of MIPAA in Africa. It will also be an opportunity to discuss national experiences and good practices that can strengthen policies on ageing for the well-being of Africa’s growing ageing population.
In particular, the meeting will review a regional report on the Fourth Review and Appraisal of MIPAA in Africa. The report highlights progress and challenges in promoting ageing policy in Africa. It further analyses the public health and socio-economic impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic on Africa’s ageing population. Once validated, the report will be Africa’s main contribution to the global review of the MIPAA at the 60th Session of the Commission for Social Development in 2023.
