Nairobi, 28 February 2022 (ECA) - The 7th Programme for Infrastructure Development in Africa (PIDA) Week kicked off today in Nairobi, Kenya under the theme “Putting Africa on a Firm Footing for Recovery, Growth, and Resilience through Infrastructure”.
The 7th PIDA Week, which will be held from 28th February to 3rd March 2022, aims to mobilise project preparation resources and market priority projects to fast-track implementation of PIDA projects.
PIDA provides a framework of engagement with investors and partners to develop regional and continental infrastructure. It combines continental infrastructure initiatives and regional master plans into a coherent infrastructure investment programme with an implementation strategy and portfolio of priority projects. The second phase of PIDA Priority Action Plan (PIDA-PAP II) covers infrastructure development in transport, energy, ICT, and Transboundary Water Resources (TWR) sectors.
As the Secretariat of PIDA-PAP II, ECA is represented by the Private Sector Development and Finance Division, the Regional Integration and Trade Division and the Strategic Planning Oversight and Results Division.
The UN Economic Commission for Africa (ECA) is contributing to the discussions in the areas of: (a) accelerating the implementation of the Single Africa Air Transport Market (SAATM); (b) the investment potentials of the Lamu Port-South Sudan-Ethiopia-Transport (LAPSSET) land bridge to central Africa and beyond; (c) the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) and the demand for transport infrastructure and services; (d) enhancing climate resilience in PIDA-PAP II projects with the AFRI-RES facility; and (e) the working session on infrastructure Public Private Partnerships (PPP) based on initial findings of six country assessments (Malawi, Zambia, Uganda, Kenya, Cote D’Ivoire, and Cameroon).
ECA will continue its partnership to provide technical support to flagship continental initiatives.
The 7th PIDA Week brings together partners and engages stakeholders on practical approaches to the realisation of PIDA projects through partnership and under the financing strategy developed for PIDA-PAP II.
