Dakar, Senegal, 24 October 2022 (ECA) - In line with the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa’s (ECA) mandate of providing technical support and policy advice to member States, an ECA team is in Senegal to provide capacity building support to Government experts. The ECA team is led by Mr Adam Elhiraika, the Director of the Macroeconomics and Governance Division. The support is being provided upon request by the Government of Senegal through its Ministry of Economy, Panning and Cooperation, and is focused on macroeconomic modelling, based on the customized ECA macroeconomic model.
The model aims at fostering effective economic forecasting, policy analysis and planning by the Government. The opening ceremony on 24 October at the Fleur de Lys Hotel was graced by the Director General of Planning and Economic Policy of the Ministry of Economy, Panning and Cooperation of the Government of Senegal, Mr Mohammed Papa Diouf, as well as the Director of IDEP, Ms Karima Bounemra Ben Soltane.
The workshop will take place over four days, involving experts from the Ministry of Economy, Planning and Cooperation, The National Agency of Statistics and Demography, and the Central Bank of Senegal. Participants are expected to identify key steps that will lead to the successful implementation and sustainability of the macromodel in the country.
