Fourth Global Expert Forum for Producers and Users of Disaster-Related Statistics

Addis Ababa, 9 October 2024 (ECA) - The Fourth Global Expert Forum for Producers and Users of Disaster-Related Statistics is set to take place from 28 October to 01 November 2024 at the United Nations Conference Centre in Addis Ababa. Held alongside the Ninth Session of StatCOM: Africa and the Tenth Session of UN-GGIM Africa, the Forum will gather key stakeholders to discuss and enhance the use of disaster-related statistics in disaster risk management.

Considering the growing natural and human-made hazards, the Forum will emphasize the importance of reliable data for effective decision-making, response planning, and resilience-building efforts. It will explore how disaster-related statistics contribute to policy development and the monitoring of international frameworks like the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, Agenda 2063, the Sendai Framework, and the Paris Agreement.

Key themes include:

  • Integrating disaster statistics into national systems

  • Innovative approaches to data collection and analysis

  • Using disaggregated data for inclusive risk management

  • Enhancing international collaboration and capacity building

  • Effective communication of disaster statistics

Participants will engage in expert-led sessions, panel discussions, and interactive workshops, with opportunities to network with stakeholders from government, academia, civil society, the private sector, and international organizations. The event aims to strengthen disaster response efforts through informed, data-driven decision-making.

The Forum is organized in collaboration with the Economic Commission for Africa, African Union Commission, United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction, United Nations Statistics Division, United Nations Environment Programme, Economic and Social Commission for Asia and Pacific, Economic Commission for Europe, Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia, and the Economic Commission for Latin America and Caribbean.
