Tunis, October 1st, 2022 (ECA) – The ECA Office for North Africa will hold on 3-7 October 2022 a capacity development workshop on the Libya AfCFTA national implementation strategy.
The African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA), signed in Kigali, Rwanda in 2018 is the world’s largest free trade zone since the creation of the WTO, with the aim of creating a 1.2 billion consumer single market.
Libya is among the African countries that have supported the creation of the AfCFTA. This new free trade zone can provide the country with an opportunity to make the most of its hydrocarbon reserves while diversifying its economy and trade partners.
This will be the first of two workshops aimed at Libyan officials from the Ministries concerned with trade, economy, finance, planning, justice, transportation, customs and other public administrations and institutions. Participants will improve their understanding of the AfCFTA, identify opportunities and challenges and draw the outlines of a national strategy to enable Libya to make the most of the agreement, promote and diversify national exports while protecting fragile, strategic sectors.
